Interestingly, what prompted my ask is that I replaced our old, dying, tachometer with a new Veratron OceanView tach that takes standard analog engine instrument feeds, and digitizes them to NMEA2000. The cost was reasonable, and it let us cleanup our old instrument panel a lot. Now that we actually have engine RPM, Oil pressure, engine hours, and coolant temperature available on the network it triggered my realization that logging some of that would be helpful.

    Hello,
I would love to have this feature too !

Maybe you can rely on this plugin, which already provides informations about boat state :
    https://github.com/meri-imperiumi/signalk-autostate

You just have to get the "navigation.state" path to know if boat is motoring.

@admin Hi Admin, and thanks again for the assistance you gave me yesterday after the plugin 4.2.1 did not install I was worried. Saillogger has now become a travel companion that cannot be missed. Last year I also made the same request, to have in the report of a trip the possibility of seeing the Distance/duration field divided by sail and engine. Also when I click on a point of my route to be able to customize the data of that telemetry (eg TWS TWA AWA SOG etc). I think that being able to customize the list of fields that Saillogger stores on a point of the log should not be a heavy development so each navigator can populate his path with the data he prefers. Regarding the engine data transducer to N2K I have had the YachtDevice one for a year and it works well. So if you allow me the final question, where are we on these new features? Thanks a lot

@admin Hi, I wanted to offer my services as a beta tester for experimental plugins that would test this new feature. I installed the sensor that displays RPM, pressure, and other engine information on SK, and I also added it to Saillogger as data to monitor, and it works (obviously). If you'd like to test this new feature on me, I'm available. Thanks.

Hey there - I have several analog to NMEA 2000 senders/products and would be happy to ship you guys one for testing if you'd like one! I also would love to see this feature.

    I second @MacJL
There is already a nice autostate plugin.
No need to reinvent the wheel.

Hi @billknny, @MacJL , @Andrea , @stevemitchell , @Voodoo ! You asked, we delivered. We’ve just released native support for engine sensors. They’re now logged automatically, along with statistics for your sailing and motoring time. Check out the announcement here: https://community.saillogger.com/topic/142/saillogger-plugin-5-x-native-engine-logging

    Dear Sailloger team
Thanks for implementing the support for NMEA engine monitoring.
In my boat I have old yanmars and won’t install analog to NMEA sensors due to the cost and difficulty of cabling 2 engines far from the NMEA backbone
Nevertheless I do have a monitoring of engine alternators current and based on ‘‘tis use auto state plugin to detect “motoring” status
Can sailloger monitor motoring status and log it in the trip data pus motoring hours?

The easiest, cheapest way to import engine data into a NMEA 2000 network is with a Veratron Oceanlink tachometer. It accepts analog feeds for tachometer, temperature, oil pressure, and outputs them (plus engine hours) to the nmea 2000 network. A bit of shopping and it can be found for less than $300, and only a bit of rewiring of the sensors is needed.

@billknny @admin I'm not sure the Saillogger community is the place to promote third party products.
If so, it still takes this discussion sideways from the original topic and a new post would be beneficial to all.
Btw, there is so many ways to do this with lot's of pros and cons .. and there is many other products from VDO, Ocean Systems, Marathon, Yacht Devices, even Raymarine and many others.

@Voodoo I don't really need to integrate my 2 old yanmar 4jh4 with the nav system.
Im happy with old fashioned analogue control panels, no need to monitor Bar and Celsius in NMEA or sailllogger. All I would like to achieve is engine status monitoring (running/not running) for trip's logs and statistic.
In my current setup I already have a Victron shunt for engines' alternators (separate 24v 110A alternators) that tiggers "motoring" path in SignalK when minimum 1 engine is running (and alternator charging the house batteries. I can also try using digital inputs of Cerbo to get on/off status control of each engine (we are a catamaran).
