We’ve added a new satellite overlay view to Saillogger, and it is now the default map layer across all views.

This new layer combines the visual richness of satellite imagery with the practical context boaters need on the water, including place names and marine geography such as straits, bays, channels, islands, and other useful labels.

Previously, satellite views were great for seeing the coastline, anchorages, marinas, and surrounding terrain, but they could sometimes lack the geographic context that makes a map easier to read. With the new overlay, you get the best of both worlds:

    • Satellite imagery for a realistic view of the coast, islands, anchorages, and surrounding land
    • Place names so you can quickly orient yourself
    • Marine labels for features like bays, straits, channels, and passages
    • A better default experience across Saillogger maps, whether you are reviewing your own trips, following friends, or exploring fleet activity

With this change, we are also retiring the NOAA map view. While NOAA provided useful marine context, it was limited to the United States. The new satellite overlay is global, more visually rich, and provides a better experience for boaters wherever they cruise.

We think this makes Saillogger’s maps more useful, more beautiful, and more intuitive, especially in complex cruising grounds where geography matters.

As always, you can still switch map layers when you prefer a different view.

    Smooth boating and happy Saillogging,
    The Saillogger Team
