I am sure this capability is buried in here somehow…

We do deliveries on boats that are not our own. Occasionally those boats have Saillogger, but usually they do not. In either case, I have my own tablet with me that records our track and can export track information in GPX, KML or KMZ format.

What I am thinking I can do is create a second, virtual, boat in my account, named “Deliveries” and import the tracks to it. This will allow me to keep track of sea time a lot easier, the whole point of Saillogger!

I’m betting this is possible, the question is how to do the imports?

    Hi Bill,

Actually, you didn’t miss it. We do have the capability to import GPX files, but this option isn’t available in the UI for several reasons:

    1. Granular Data Requirements: Importing GPX files can be tricky because Saillogger requires granular data logging. Not every GPX capture provides the necessary detail, which may lead to inaccurate identification of trips and statistics.
    2. Stateful Design: Saillogger is stateful by design. Importing a track risks breaking this state by introducing inconsistent data over time periods that have already been processed. (Imagine a boat "beaming" in and out over a couple thousand miles in a single day!)
    3. Streamlined User Experience: Our data model is extremely rich, but to ensure a streamlined experience for regular users, we simplify what is processed and displayed. In practice, we normalize every account to a single boat, maintaining that boat’s state in great detail. For users with multiple boats, we create separate accounts.

That said, we’d love to help you add your deliveries. If you send us the GPX file, we can experiment with it to see if the import process makes sense.

We would need to have a plan for a clean fallback to ensure that Harmonie’s logbook and track remain accurate!
